Cllr Oliur Rahman was first elected in 2004 and was one of the youngest councillors in Britain! Cllr Rahman first stood in the GLA election in 2004 gaining an incredible 19,675 votes coming third! Since then he has stood in three council elections, parliamentary and GLA elections in 2004 and 2008.

Cllr Rahman is a trade unionist for PCS and was branch chair for East London for several years!

After re-election into Tower Hamlets Council in 2006 he was left with no choice but to join the Labour party after several cllrs defected to Labour he felt as though he had no choice but to go with them.

The founders of Respect John Rees and Lindsay German who also organised the Stop the war coalition felt betrayed by George Galloway and the IFE who later started to dominate Respect in Tower Hamlets!

Since joining the Labour whip Cllr Rahman was elected into cabinet and is currently lead member for employment!

Cllr Rahman has been known to always put residents first and has a record of working tirelessly for the people of Stepney in cases such as housing, anti social behaviour and other domestic issues.
