Tower Hamlets directly elected Mayor Lutfur Rahman has faced further criticism more recently on his chauffeur driven top of the range E-class Mercedes.
Not only is this costing the tax payer £72 a day he has also employed a council employee to drive him around which is also paid by the council!
Glyn Robins a former Respect member and anti war activist from the Hands Off Our Public Services campaign, said the group was “shocked” to hear about the expenditure.
The Taxpayers’ Alliance branded the move “sickening”.
Directly elected mayors in neighbouring boroughs Newham and Hackney, Sir Robin Wales and Jules Pipe, use their own cars, public transport or pool cars.
