Serving Councillor for Spitafields and Bangla Town Shelina Akhtar could be facing a jury trial at the crown court over benefit fraud allegations after her case was adjourned by a majistrates court earlier this week.
The 32 year old Councillor appeared at Thames Majistrates court with her sister charges of sub-letting her council flat whilst not living there for 16 months whilst claiming housing and council tax benefit!
Both sisters have been bailed until 19 July 2011.
